The 18th annual Trustmark Children’s Hospital Pro-Am Golf Tournament, played November 7th at Annandale and Reunion Golf Clubs in Madison as well as The Country Club of Jackson was a huge success! More than $91,000 was raised for Batson Children’s Hospital as teams enjoyed a great day of golf.
Trustmark National Bank was again the Title Sponsor and Higginbotham Mercedes-Benz Porsche of Jackson was the Presenting Sponsor. Additional sponsors include:Bancroft Charitable Trust, BankPlus, TEC, Hunter and Jody Hatten, Jr. Foodmart, Johnson Controls, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, LodgeNet, Ben Nelson Golf & Utility Carts and The Rogue.
Each course was filled to capacity and tournament play went smoothly. George Yarbrough and his team won first place at The Country Club of Jackson. BankPlus came in first at Annandale and The McComb Children’s Clinics finished first at Reunion. Congratulations to every team. Owen Abney won the 2012 EZ’Go Golf Cart donated by Ben Nelson Golf and Utility Carts. His ticket was pulled at random from the more than 325 Super Mulligan Raffle Tickets sold. Thank you also to Tico’s Steakhouse, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Alibriton’s Jewelers and Jackson Coca-Cola for donating items to the tournament. Tournament participants also enjoyed a great evening at the Mercedes-Benz Porsche Sponsor Party the evening before the golf tournament at The Country Club of Jackson. Miss Mississippi Mary Margaret Roark was the special guest for the evening and spoke of her visit to Batson Children’s Hospital and her interactions with many patients.
Funds from this year’s tournament will specifically benefit the Child Life Program at Batson Children’s Hospital. This much needed program benefits the patients and their families in so many ways. The children enjoy having a dedicated space to play games and just be a kid. Trained Child Life Therapists on each patient floor help children understand what is going on with their illness or treatment and help them cope. The Hospital School Program is also an important aspect of children’s hospital. Many people don’t realize these much needed programs even exist but when you treat children, you have to cover every aspect of their life and that includes schoolwork and playtime.
