How Does Your Donation Help?
Since its founding, Friends has helped the Batson Hospital meet needs from the very small which add that extra caring touch—coffee for each patient floor, decorating the lobby at Christmas, giving stuffed Blair Bears to each patient—to the very large which anticipate the future health care needs of Mississippi’s children—helping to build the five-story Batson Hospital atop the Mississippi Children's Cancer Clinic, raising another $1.7 million for the two-story Pediatric Surgical Center addition, donating $100,000 to the D. Jeannette Pullen Chair of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and giving $500,000 to the Pediatric Emergency Room Fund. As the state’s only Level I emergency room designed specifically for children, it provides services which cannot be duplicated anywhere else in Mississippi. However, the facility was built more than 20 years ago. Approximately 17,000 patients were treated annually when it opened. Today, that number has nearly doubled. The current facilities were simply not designed to handle this patient volume or the problems of today. Plans are underway to relocate the children’s clinics, expand and renovate the emergency department, and build a family resource center. However, funding for this critical project is not yet in place. Friends is committed to raising $1.7 to meet this need. Estimated cost for the entire project will be $4.4 million. |
